Why this WEBSITE?
An Introduction.
When you read your Bible do you ever find yourself highlighting, underlining, circling, marking, and taking notes? While some people feel the conviction to not write in their Bibles, others love to highlight and take notes for later reflection and remembrance of what the Lord revealed and taught to them. This book is full of over 2,000 of my own personal Bible “highlights.”
Here are 4 things I hope you gain from the use of this website:
1. Daily Encouragement from the Lord
Over the years I have had the joy of sharing my “Bible highlights” with my church family via text message. This website is a compilation of my favorite verses that the Lord has laid on my heart for my personal devotions and to share with my church family. When we open God’s Word, He speaks to us and strengthens us for the challenges of each day.
2. Sharing God’s Wisdom
You might consider using this website as a journal where you add in your own Bible highlights. You could also find this website helpful for marking up or finding some of your own favorite passages, characters, and stories of Scripture in your own Bible. Your personal Bible may become a gem of inspiration for your family and heirloom for future descendants. Sharing the Bible is the best way to pass on life and wisdom to the next generation.
Maybe you will be encouraged by this resource to start your own group text or social media pattern of sharing your own “verse of the day”? When you share God’s truths you will be amazed at how the Lord uses you in the lives of others for their salvation and sanctification.
3. Growing a Love of God’s Word
Maybe you have struggled with reading the Bible. Maybe you used to read the Word but have been out of it for a long time. Perhaps God will use this website as a way to reinvigorate your spiritual life. May the Lord show you His glory through the study of His Holy Scriptures.
Struggling with where to start? Try picking a book of the Bible randomly or intentionally. Then start skimming over the verses one by one. Whenever the Lord grabs your attention, teaching you something new or reminding you of His timeless truth, let Him draw you into His Word for greater study.
Some of these verses may be totally unfamiliar to you. If that is the case, use that verse as a starting point to discover the biblical story, context, and wisdom of that passage. Watch the Lord work in you as you diligently seek Him through His Word.
4. A Speedy Way into the Scriptures
These verses were mostly shared with my church by text messaging. Due to the limitations of text messaging a group, I had to limit my text messages to 140 characters or less. That process of editing a verse down to 140 characters was often a challenge!
You will find many of these verses with abbreviated book titles, uses of different punctuation (like a connector symbol with three periods … an ellipsis), and other techniques I used to make the verse “fit” within the 140-character constraint. Hopefully this isn’t an obstacle to your reading. Instead, I hope you will find this a great tool to get refocused on encountering God. As you remember God’s truths, or learn new ones, may the Holy Spirit inspired to deepen your love of Jesus as He reveals Himself to you through the Bible. May this book be a helpful tool to quickly jumpstart and deepen your daily personal encounters with your Lord!
“Open the Bible, start reading it, and pause at every verse and turn it into a prayer.” ~John Piper

A Warning & 3 Tips!
Since these verses are shared 1) in shortened form 2) with parts removed for brevity and 3) out of their original book and context, there is a real danger of misunderstanding God’s truth.
Always be sure to read this book with an open Bible in hand. This book is not designed to replace the Bible. This book is designed as a tool to help us get back into the Bible more regularly. May this resource help you to better remember and proclaim the glories of Christ from the Scriptures.
Here are three tips!
1) Use a Study Bible: Please always be sure to read and study these verses in light of their original context and setting. A great study Bible (my favorite is the ESV Study Bible) will be one of the best helps you can find as you get into a right understanding of the Word of God. At the end of this book are some helpful tools on how to study your Bible (also here: www.trustworthyword.com/how-to-study-the-bible)
2) Join a Local Church: The Bible isn’t made to be studied alone. A church family and a pastor can greatly help in your spiritual growth as a follower of Christ. If you commit to be in a biblical church each Sunday, the Lord will grow you through the preaching of the Word and through the weekly gathering of His saints! (See also: www.trustworthyword.com/what-does-the-bible-say-about-church-membership)
3) Participate in a Small Group or Sunday School Class: Small groups and Sunday School classes are a wonderful way to learn more about the Bible and to be challenged in your personal spiritual growth. We are better together, and a small group can be an incredible blessing to you through the ups and downs of life. If you need some free Bible reading plans or small group Bible study questions, check out www.smallgroupquestions.com. They might be just the tool you need to start up your own Bible study group!
